Inauguration of Southern  Provincial Identity Card Office and One Day Service for Issuing  National Identity Cards

 

 
 

The Inauguration ceremony of the Southern Provincial Office of the Department for Registration of Persons is scheduled to be held under the patronage of Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe     on 06,09,2019 at the auspicious time of 3.00 am at the Galle Four Gravets Divisional Secretariat.


Minister of Internal Affairs and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government, Wajira Abeywardhana and State Minister of Internal Affairs and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government  J.C.Alawathuwala  and  other distinguished  dignitaries will participate at this occasion.


People will be able to get their Identity Card related services done easily from this office which is opened under the programme of decentralizing services of the Department for Registration of Persons and this will be initiated under the guidance of His Excellency the President Maithreepala Sirisena and under special recommendation of Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka


The decision to open provincial offices was taken with the intention of providing more efficient and fruitful service to the public under decentralization programme of the Department for Registration of Persons and accordingly, the North Western office in Kurunegala ,Eastern Province Office in Baticaloa and Northern Provincial Office in Vavunia were opened and these offices are now functioning successfully providing a better service.

The Normal and One Day Service now in operation at the Department under provisions of the Registration of Persons Act No 32 of 1968 and the act No 08 of 2016 (amended) to register and issue Identity Cards to suitable Sri Lankan citizens,  are expected to be initialed in provincial offices as well. 

 
     

 

     
 

Accordingly, as the first phase of introducing the service of issuing identity cards for urgent needs from provincial offices, all arrangements have been made to start this service from the Sothern Provincial Office. Any citizen from Sothern province or any other province can obtain his or her National Identity Card under One Day Service from this Office.


Further, all divisional offices located throughout the island have been connected with the Data Base of the head office via VPN technology .Therefore the people in the Sothern Province can now forward their duly completed applications for obtaining Identity Cards under Normal Service to the Divisional Offices housed in Divisional Secretariats.


This Sothern Provincial Office will handle all applications forwarded for obtaining Identity Cards under Normal Service to Divisional offices in Galle,Matara and Hanbantota Districts .It will be a great relief for the people of Sothern province that they can make inquiries regarding their Identity Cards from this office and also they can get identity Cards related other services done from this office as well.


The Sothern Provincial Office will undertake all tasks such as supervising all Divisional Offices in Sothern Province, providing facilities to them and conducting Mobile Services etc.


Further, the Department is now enjoying the facility of obtaining photographs (ICAO Standard -International Civil Aviation Organization) online to the head office from all photo studios registered under the Department and issuing smart Identity Cards using latest technologies.

It is relevant to remind here the fact that by initiating all these services the prime objective of the Department for Registration of Persons is to reliably establish the Identity of a person and providing more efficient identity card related services to them.
